The Virginia Association of Soil & Water Conservation Districts (VASWCD) is a central voice for all SWCDs.
The VASWCD mission is to serve and strengthen soil & water conservation districts in the stewardship of natural resources. The VASWCD vision is to be an effective independent voice in Virginia’s conservation partnership supporting the missions of SWCDs by providing leadership and training, improving communication, promoting financial independence, and providing cohesive representation to legislative bodies on natural resource issues.
The VASWCD is a private nonprofit association of 47 soil and water conservation districts in Virginia and is classified accordingly as a 501(c)(5). It is a voluntary, nongovernmental association of Virginia’s districts. The VASWCD coordinates conservation efforts statewide to focus effectively on issues identified by local member districts.
The VASWCD is structured much like local SWCDs with a Board of Directors – comprised of officers and Area Chairs – committees, and staff. The VASWCD is governed by a 12 member board. All are elected SWCD Directors. All are elected into office by the Association’s voting membership – fellow Soil & Water Directors from across the Commonwealth.
The Board of Directors consists of an Executive Committee. The Executive Committee includes the President, 1st Vice, 2nd Vice, Past President, Secretary/Treasurer, and NACD Board Member. Contact info for our current VASWCD officers can be accessed here. Other members of the Board include the six area chairs, one from each of the six geographic areas in Virginia. Contact info for current Area Chairs and districts in which they represent can be accessed here.
