Basic Knowledge & Responsibilities

This basic knowledge and responsibilities module will provide you a big picture understanding of the establishment of and defining role of SWCDs. Find out why, how and when districts nationwide and the Virginia Association of Soil & Water Conservation Districts began as well as about its duties, functions and powers. Learn what conservation districts are, what they are supposed to do, and who are the people involved in getting the job done. Review the legal responsibilities of which SWCDs are accountable. Examine the interactions and partnerships among SWCDs and partners, and review the ethical obligations of SWCDs and its officers.

Mini quizzes at the end of each module are for your own understanding of material. The ‘final quiz’ will be submitted to the VASWCD for review and training certification.  The purpose of the modules is to provide you with the resources you need to do your job, not to test what you can remember. The final quiz is the only way we have to track who has reviewed the module and has a basic understanding of pertinent SWCD information. Those completing and passing the ‘final’ quiz will receive a certificate of completion and be recognized at the VASWCD Annual Meeting.
