Current Competition Details: Virginia’s Dominion Energy Envirothon

Virginia High School Students must participate in their spring area/regional competitions in order be able to advance to the 2026 State Competition in May 2026. Reach out to your local SWCD to learn more about getting involved!

This year’s Envirothon Special Topic is Non-Point Source Pollution: It begins at home! This current event topic changes each year and is chosen by the International Envirothon hosts, which is in Starkville, Mississippi this year.

The Virginia Dominion Energy State Envirothon will be held May 17-18 at Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg, VA. The overall first-place winner will be progressing to the International Competition in Starkville, Mississippi from July 19-25.

Training: Saturday, February 21, 2026, at Bridgewater College in Bridgewater, VA.

Competition:  Tuesday, April 28, 2025, at Grand Caverns in Grottoes, VA

(Area I includes: Rockbridge, City of Lexington, City of Buena Vista, Rockingham, Page, City of Harrisonburg, Warren, Shenandoah, Clarke, Frederick, City of Winchester, Bath, Highland, Alleghany, Highland, City of Covington, Botetourt, Craig, Augusta, City of Staunton and Waynesboro)

 

Area II

Training: Saturday, November 22, 2025, at Graves Mountain Lodge in Syria, VA.

Registration Link – available to any interested team in VA until capacity reached

Competition: Thursday, April 23th, 2026, at Graves Mountain Lodge in Syria, VA.

(Area II includes: Madison, Greene, Culpeper, Orange, Rappahannock, Greene, Fauquier, Loudoun, Fairfax, Prince William, Nelson, Albemarle, Louisa, Fluvanna, and the City of Charlottesville)

 

Area III 

Training:  Saturday, March 14, 2026 at Hanover Wayside Park in Hanover, VA.

Competition: Thursday, April 16, 2026, at Caroline County Agricultural Fairgrounds in Caroline, VA.

(Area III includes: New Kent, Charles City, James City, York, City of Williamsburg, Hanover, Caroline, Henrico, Powhatan, Goochland, Westmoreland, Richmond, Northumberland, Lancaster, Middlesex, Gloucester, Matthews, Essex, King William, King and Queen, Stafford, Spotsylvania, King George, and City of Fredericksburg)

 

Area IV

Training: Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at Virginia Department of Forestry Conference Room in Galax, VA.

Competition: Thursday, April 30, 2026 at New River Hill Farm & Forest in Galax, VA.

(Area IV includes: Lee, Wise, Dickenson, Scott, Buchanan, Russell, Tazewell, Washington, Tazewell, Smyth, Bland, Wythe, Grayson, Carroll, City of Galax, Giles, Pulaski, Montgomery, and Floyd)

 

Area V 

Training: Thursday, March 26, 2026, at Longwood Environmental Education Center in Farmville, VA.

Competition: Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at Holiday Lake 4-H Educational Center in Appomattox, VA.

(Area V includes: Roanoke, City of Roanoke, Franklin, Henry, Bedford, City of Bedford, Pittsylvania, Amherst, Campbell, Appomattox, Halifax, Mecklenburg, Brunswick, Lunenburg, Charlotte, Nottoway, Prince Edward, Amelia, Buckingham, and Cumberland)

 

Area VI

Training:  Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at Midlothian Library in Chesterfield, VA AND at Virginia Tech Eastern Shore Agricultural Research and Extension Center (AREC) in Accomack, VA. (Choose training closest to you)

Registration Link – for training in Chesterfield; available to any interested team in VA until capacity reached

Competition: Wednesday, April 15, 2026 at Windsor Castle Park in Smithfield, VA.
